The General tab inside Popup Box → General Settings contains global options that affect how your popups behave across your entire website. These settings are designed to fine-tune performance, adjust the editing experience, and set rules for user permissions.
Navigation: To access these settings, go to your WordPress Dashboard → Popup Box → General Settings → General.

Default Popup Parameters #
- WP Editor Height – Defines the height (in pixels) of the WordPress editor inside popup settings.
Example: setting it to150
provides more vertical space when writing descriptions or editing content.
Best Practice: If you work with longer descriptions or add custom HTML, increase this value for easier editing.

Popup Sounds #
Add sound effects to make your popups more noticeable.
- Opening Sound – Choose an audio file that plays when a popup appears.
- Closing Sound – Choose an audio file that plays when a popup is closed.
Best Practice: Use subtle sounds (like soft chimes) instead of loud effects to avoid frustrating visitors.

Animation CSS File #
- Exclude the Animation CSS File – If checked, the plugin will not load its built-in animation stylesheet. This is useful if you want to use your own custom animations or improve performance by reducing unused CSS.
Best Practice: Only disable this if you are comfortable providing your own animation styles.

Lazy Loading #
- Enable Lazy Loading Attribute for Images – When enabled, images in your popups will only load when needed. This helps improve site speed and overall performance.
Best Practice: Keep this enabled unless your popup requires all assets to load immediately.

User Permissions #
- Who Will Have Permission to Popup Menu – Select which WordPress user roles can manage the Popup Box plugin.
Example: Limit access to Administrators or allow Editors if your content team manages popups.
Best Practice: Restrict popup management to trusted roles only to maintain consistent design and security.

Excerpt Words Count in List Tables #
- Popup List Table – Set how many words of popup descriptions are shown in the popups list view on your dashboard.
- Popup Categories List Table – Set how many words are displayed for categories in the categories list view on your dashboard.
Best Practice: Keep values short ( 3-5 words) for quick overviews in the admin panel.

Best Practices for General Settings #
- Keep Editing Comfortable – Adjust the WP Editor height if you frequently work with long descriptions.
- Enhance Experience with Care – Use sounds and animations sparingly to improve, not overwhelm, the user experience.
- Optimize Performance – Enable lazy loading and avoid unnecessary CSS for faster page loads.
- Secure Access – Limit plugin management to Admins (or trusted Editors) to prevent unapproved changes.
- Simplify Admin Tables – Keep excerpt counts small for better visibility of popup lists.
The General tab gives you control over core plugin behaviors: editing comfort, visual/audio effects, loading performance, and user permissions. Once configured, these settings will apply across all your popups.
